The demand for broiler chicken has been increasing steadily over the past two years. Driven by the cost factor and it being a popular choice, a variety of chicken dishes are served at functions, social gatherings and marriages.

But we should not forget that the low price of chicken across the country is pinching very hard on poultry producers because of rise in its input cost. Most of the individual poultry farmers are loosing heavily on every batch and just hoping against the hopes that prices will go up. Integrator too are loosing heavily as the prevailing farm gate prices of chicken  at most of the times are below the production cost.

If trend remains the same soon there is the possibility that individual poultry farms will be forced to close down their operations affecting the supply and there might be wide gap between demand and supply which will result in shooting up the prices of chicken and such price rise will neither be in favor of consumers nor the producers.

There fore it is the high time that poultry associations and integrator across the country come together and make sure that poultry producers get the remunerative price for their products and consumers get quality chicken at affordable price.

“Broiler chicken is a hybrid bird. From among 100 different breeds in the chicken family, it has emerged as the most viable one for breeding and for meat, which explains the high demand. For middle-class families. Mutton due to its very high price is almost like a luxury these days. Most of the people prefer to serve chicken and as such demand for chicken will continue to rule among Indian households.
